The Wash Day Revolution Goes Unappreciated

It’s impossible to understand how difficult washday used to be for every generation main thrust of washing machine purchase for the masses became possible. I quite well remember the first little machine my mother had – it was a twin tub that you poured hot water in via a hose – it had agitation post in the middle to get the washing clean. We used the old draining board mounted wringer to help mum textract the maximum water. Once all the items had been washed, the tub got empied and fresh rinsing water was put in and the process happened again until all finished. The excitement was when she used the spin dryer attachment – my goodness it was noisy, and you could only put a few things in at a time. But it saved a huge amount of time. We now have automatic washing machines and tumble driers now and take them very much for granted!
