I belong to the womens’ institute – that august body of worthy usefulness. Some federations are over 100 years old – each major town has its own federation which includes and incorporates surrounding villages. It’s amazing to see how many are still functioning, in fact quite a few have reached their centenial milestone!
I mention this joyous occupation only for the reason that our group meets in thevillage Memorial Hall. It is a sweet little place but the cleaning arrangements leave much to be desired. They employ a caretaker/cleaner but she’s well past it, doesn’t generate any steam with the cleaning aperatus and doesn’t notice the grubbiness or terribly stale, mucky smell that pervades the main hall! It needs a reliable commercial cleaning operation – although many other groups do use the hall per week, organising a proper clean seems beyond them! Bung up the hall letting fee and get proper cleaners in weekly would be my solution.
